A food system joins together all the elements (environment, people, inputs, processes, infrastructure, institutions, etc.) and activities associated with the production, processing, distribution, preparation, acquisition and consumption of food, and the outputs of these activities, including socio-economic (e.g. nutrition and health) and environmental outcomes (HLPE, 2017).
