The 4th National Aquaculture Forum in Timor-Leste is a platform for stakeholders to share their research, development experiences and identify opportunities for fostering partnerships in accelerating aquaculture development in Timor-Leste.

This forum brings together over 150 stakeholders from government, development partners, research institutions, the private sector, and aquaculture value chains to mark a decade of progress in the country’s aquaculture sector for food security, climate resilience, and inclusive economic growth.

It also celebrates a decade of the Partnership for Aquaculture Development in Timor-Leste (PADTL), implemented by WorldFish in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry, with support from New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Key advances will be highlighted across the sector at the event, including strengthened seed systems, expanded hatchery networks, improved farmer capacity, and growing market linkages.

WorldFish Participation

WorldFish plays a central role in the 4th National Aquaculture Forum as the lead implementing partner of the Partnership for Aquaculture Development in Timor-Leste (PADTL) through long-term collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry and support from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The forum highlights key advances across the sector, including strengthened seed systems, expanded hatchery networks, improved farmer capacity, and growing market linkages.

It also provides a space to explore future opportunities in research and development, private sector engagement, and nationwide scaling of sustainable aquaculture practices.

High-level participation, including representatives from the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization, underscores the increasing recognition of aquaculture as a strategic driver of economic transformation, food security, and climate resilience in Timor-Leste.
