The shortage of funds and financing difficulties are the general challenges faced in the rapid development of fisheries industry. This talk will focus on the Yanghe village economic community as a case study, in exploring how leading enterprises develop new financing channels and innovative financing model to resolve the capital bottleneck in order to achieve economy of scale. The paper analyzed the integration of industry chain, focused on the innovation of the financing model and the distribution of cooperative residual.

The Deputy Director General (Fisheries) from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Directors from the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), the Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) and the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT)—all ICAR research institutes—will visit the WorldFish head office to finalize the ICAR-WorldFish research strategy and funding for the next five years.

WorldFish organized the first out of four series of Think Tank on 6th April 2020. Hosted by Phillipa Cohen, WorldFish Research Program Leader, Resilient Small-scale Fisheries, the participant of this virtual preparatory meeting include those from the established FISH CRP partnerships that have already made substantial contributions to “Fish in Regional Food Systems Research” research cluster of Flagship 2 on Small-scale Fisheries, as well as relevant research from Flagship on Sustainable Aquaculture.
This talk seeks to address a key challenge in aquaculture development policies, which is the paradox of economic efficiency, social considerations, and environmental conservation. By examining data obtained from a household survey in Vietnam, Dr. Chu's study finds that mangrove aquaculture, if properly designed, can be a triple-win approach. The data showed that mangrove aquaculture offers the highest rate of return compared to other types of aquaculture farming, while requiring only a modest up-front investment, which is well-suited for the poor people.
